Hi, I'm looking for a DVD player that can decode CD-R's with MP3's on them -- i know Apex has a cheap one that does this, are there any others?

I don't know much about them, getting on soon. I would think it is more a software issue just like a regular CD drive.
There are many CDR software programs out there, I'm not sure what comes with apex, but it should allow you to read the files and copy them to the media, then you can download a mp3 program to run them as it will work like a regular cd drive.

I hope this info is accurate, I used a burner once and my freind has one over a year old, creative I think, and he records mp3 all the time, for personal use only of course.

Take Care.
If money was no object, how could you spend it!

Check out the Toshiba line at www.toshiba.com. They are reasonably priced and have gotten some good reviews. I am considering getting one after I move into my house.
Some will read CD-R but not all. As to MP3, I have not seen anyone mention if thier DVD can decode it. Probably not many out there.

Pionner and Nintaus! Both DVD players can read MP3!

I personnaly like the Pioneer better! But i heard some good stuff about the Nintaus!
Sorry, i can´t remember the reference of the players!
I´m not sure , but sometime ago , i think Tom did a review on a DVD player that could read MP3 (I think it was the Nintaus!)

Better burn in Hell with some company than freeze in Heaven all alone

Apex DVD works. 500W has a clumsy remote configuration. Does play MP3s from CD-R and CD-RW. The cheapest I've seen one is at Wallmart for $98 and change. I have had one DVD not work; Space Cowboys. Took the DVD to a friends house and noticed problems (some same and somedifferent problems than on the APEX). The first one I bought had a half broken remote control, so quality control is in question. Some allow ugrades to firmware via CD, but not the $100 model. EPROM only, but they are available from a couple of places for < $30. You can burn you're own from software downloads, if you have a 40 pin burner. All in all, a good value. The DVD drive is IDE, so if the rest of the unit ever breaks, you can drop it in a PC.

Samsung, Harmon Kardon also have mp3 decoding dvd players. Check out the most recent Sound and Vision for a full list of all dvd players under $1000 along with basic features.

My brother just got the toshiba 3700 for 170. It does it all including mp3 and progressive scan, if you go for the next model up, the 4700, it will give you a little nicer remote, 5.1rca jack(3700 is only optical 5.1) and it also plays music dvds. Not much of a difference besides those three things though. They both have cool zoom features.
