DVD play problem

I bought a DVD set Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.
In short the second one I could set to English speaking and English subtitles but the first played in a foreign language and no subtitles - even though I'd set it on the menu.
So I complained, got a refund from Amazon and bought Before Sunrise from another company.,
But I still have the same problem - I press the right menu buttons but still the dialogue is in French or Italian - bot sure which - and no subtitles.
I can't understand what I'm doing wrong because I don't get this problem with other DVDs.
I have tried the problem discs on my computer and the same thing happens.
Can anyone help please?

try clicking on the other language options. does one of them change it to english despite it saying its for another language?

it could be a broken/mislabeled menu system (wouldnt be the first time i've seen that)
