More info?)
I use a JVC DR-MXV1. Got it at eCost for about $300 less than list.
VHS is HiFi only, but it does play S-VHS. All signals can be routed to
composite with 480p with time base correction. Direct dubbing across all 3
subsystems is supported, but VHS has to be in raw mode (interlaced.)
Dubbing from/to HDD/DVD-R can work in direct copy mode.
Video quality is excellent for non HDTV.
The PVR has a satellite link mode, in which it will turn on and record
anytime the satellite line input goes live. Of course, I would prefer
integration the other way around, since my 4DTV 920 only has six timers.
The JVC DVD seem better had handling a variety of DVD-R from various
sources. I had Toshiba choke on home made DVDs that the JVC handles fine.
Pretty happy with it, it's not cheap. But I am trying to keep things simple.
