i have been asked to fix a Packard bell easynote ts44hr laptop, it does not show any indication of power. no lights at all. but if i plug the charger in i can definitely hear it drawing current. i have it disassebled on my dest right now but i see no blown chips. i see 2 red glass tubes on the underside near the battery socket labeled PD1 and PD2 and those looked cracked on the inside. possibly dead fuses?

Thanks for the response. O plugged in the adapter and tested from the negative inputs from socket. Got 19.2 v on the one side and 18.7v on the side with the black stripe. Are those acceptable?

hi there, that coil looks fine. voltage and continuity between both sides... one thing I did pick up on PD2, the side with the black stripe is harbouring around 18.3 volts but on the other side is giving me around 2,3 volts. is PD2 mainly for the battery circuit or could that be an issue? everything beyond PD2 is also around 2.3- 2.5 volts.

Ah that may help. You seem to know the items but its. LA - 6910P

Ok, I have the right schematics somehow, LA-6901P P5WS0 and not LA-6910P from the first answer. Packard Bell share the same motherboard than Acer. If you have 19.2 volts on PL4 and PL5, something is wrong here, you should have 3.3 volts on PL4 and 5 volts on PL5. We have to start to the beginning to be sure, with just the adapter plug, what are the voltages on PL22 or PL25, they are parallels (connected together), the coil you have.

haha yeah i noticed as i was looking up that board on the web that some were for acer too

ok
ill go over a few of them.

PL1 = 19.3
PL2 = 2.5
PL3 = 2.5
PL4 = 19.3
PL5 = 19.3
PL12 = 19.3
PL20 = 19.3
PL21 = 19.3
PL22 = 2.5
PL25 = 2.5

any of this helpful?
should i list the voltages on all the pl's?

Yes those readings were helpful, don't need to read all the coils for now, when you measure the voltages of those coils, you measure both sides of them, just to be sure one of them is not open. The coil PL22 and PL25 are connected to the B+, the B+ gives the voltage to all the circuit on the motherboard. The problem is around the PU1 chip (6251), if you can, give me the voltages of all the pins for the PU1 chip.

i have taken most of the tests via the input. PJP1. checking voltage on this pu1 chip, is ther a specific order that needs to be checked or do you want it in order like top pin 1 to bottom pin 1 ?

hi there. ok ill get to that now.. i have included both polarities the ones in the brackets were measured with the positive from PJP1

pin 1 = 0 (19.25)
pin 2 = 0 (19.25)
pin 3 = 5.07 (14.18)
pin 4 = 4.95 (9.21)
pin 5 = 2.53 (16.71)
pin 6 = 2.53 (16.71)
pin 7 = 2.53 (16.71)
pin 8 = 2.53 (16.71)
pin 9 = 2.53 (16.72)
pin 10 = 2.53 (16.72)
pin 11 = 0 (19.25)
pin 12 = 19.25 (0.38)
pin 13 = 5.07 (14.17)
pin 14 = 1.38 (17.84)
pin 15 = 0 (19.17)
pin 16 = 4.87 (14.30)
pin 17 = 0 (19.25)
pin 18 = 0 (19.25)
pin 19 = 0.08 (19.17)
pin 20 = 2.38 (16.87)
pin 21 = 0 (19.07)
pin 22 = 1.45 (17.79)
pin 23 = 0.12 (19.07)
pin 24 = 0 (19.26)
not sure which ones you needed but hope this helps.

thanks

Always measure the voltages with the negative probe (black) on the ground, you measure the voltage on the part with the positive probe (red). Use the ground as I indicated with the black arrow.

A question, if we find the defective component, can you replace with a new one? Desolder the defective component and solder the new one.
