External Gtx 1070 with macbook Pro

Can i run a External PCI 3.0 GPU off a thunderbolt 2.0 on a macbook pro 2015? do you need bootcamp or can you have a gtx 1070 with vanilla mac osx? any good pci to thunderbolt adapters?

I think you will have huge bottleneck in thuderbolt 2, would be different if it was version 3 (40Gbps I think).

I'm pretty sure you can, it would be like using a SSD through SATA II, totally worthless for such a GPU like a GTX 1070.

and would a gpu running at 20gbps better than the AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB of GDDR5 witch is in the macbook itself
