Flashing orange battery solution Sony VAIO

Tried solution but when laptop booted needed to run startup repair. When this failed it was recommended to run restore from previous backup. This has been running for hours and no sign of finishing. Tried to cancel but can't now cancel this process. Appears the only option available is to switch off power. Battery not in place!
