I formatted my Sony Handycam HDR-CX520 using my laptop, and deleted the folders used to store video files. Now my camera is not working. What can I do?

When you say the camera does not work to you mean it won't turn on or it won't record or is it something else? Have you tried resetting the camera? Does the camera power on? If yes, are you able to access the menus? The more specifics you can provide the better.

Thanks Ken :)

It turns on. It won't record.

When I try to record, it shows this logo (page 9, right-side, go to 'Centre'... then 'Warning (108)'... first row, second icon: https://docs.sony.com/release/HDRCX520V_handbook.pdf

I formatted it like a usb using the laptop. Now there's no folders to put recordings into. When I connect it to my laptop, there are no folders anymore.

I tried resetting, same happens.

The camera powers on.

I can access the menus, but the language is Japanese which I don't understand. The camera was a gift off my martial arts tutor. Is there a language file I can upload perhaps?

Is there anything else you need to know? Tnx for your help.

Thanks Ken! :)

I...

1. ...went to the Japanese site you linked me to for my device: http://search.sony.jp/all/search.x?nccharset=81C9D314&q=hdr-cx520&ie=SJIS

2. ...used Google Translate to get the Japanese word for 'handbook', which is what the document for my device is called on the English site.

English site: https://docs.sony.com/release/HDRCX520V_handbook.pdf

3. ...used the 'Find' function in my browser to find this word in the Japanese site, and found it.

Japanese site: http://www.sony.jp/ServiceArea/impdf/pdf/41493520M-JP.pdf

4. ...went to the same page number in the Japanese handbook as the information is on in the English handbook (this step could be skipped).

5. ...used Google Translate to get the Japanese term for 'Media Format', which is the title of the section in the English handbook that was relevant to my query.

6 ...searched for this term in the Japanese handbook using the browser 'Find' function, and found it.

7. ...followed the instructions in the Japanese handbook, matching the words visually.

FIXED!

Excellent.

Thanks for your help! :)

Glad to hear you got it working again and glad I could help.
