FS: Series 2 Tivo - Lifetime Service - 320 Hours

Hello All,
I have a Tivo Series 2, Model TCD140060. Active Lifetime Subscription.
It has a Linksys USB WiFi adapter running. I had it upgraded it so that the
primary drive is a 120GB 7200RPM and the secondary is a 160GB 7200 RPM. It
also has a fully transferable Best Buy Service Plan (which covers it if the
unit dies etc within 4 years?). I also have the original Box and paperwork.
Cosmetically and electronically the Tivo and factory remote are great.
When I added the 2nd HD I had a machine shop drill a 6x6 hole grid over the
HD's
to allow for additional airflow. It works great and stays nice and cool!

Anyway, It is for sale and I'm open to taking decent and reasonable

If you are interested I will also leave all the episodes of CSI I have
recorded since December on the Tivo when it is purchased. (I added the 160GB
Because the 120GB was full of CSI Episodes. )

I am perfectly willing to pull the unit out and wipe it if the buyer
wants it clean.
And to the person who said I "Voided" the Best Buy warranty. You are
absolutely wrong. I just called two different stores in my area. I spoke
with the Tech Services Supervisor to confirm that non of the things which
were changed (Modd'ed) on the unit will effect their Protection Plan. They
just cover the original equipment, not the added HD's.

We bought ours directly from Tivo and when I called Tech Support with a
question and the tech learned that we had upgraded the hard drive, he noted
that the warranty had been voided.

By the way, the error message that I called about was resolved after I did
a "Clear and Delete Everything" on the Tivo. Funny Tivo Tech Support
wouldn't give that advice to ensure continued subscription service (the
unit was only $50 to buy).

The "Clear and Delete Everything" is simple and quick and can be easily and
quickly done by a new owner - and if a prospective buyer requires that you
unpack the unit and do it before he'll buy, I'd tell him to lump it.

Wayne, the basic fact that you drilled holes in the top of the metal part of
the unit voided the warranty the second the first drill bit hit metal. Best
Buy will not repair the thing, they will also not touch the unit with a ten
foot pole if you have put a second hard drive into it.

Just because Beavis, the tech guy at the counter said it wasnt voided doesn't
change the fact that the warranty company that underwrites the plan won't pay
for it.

Yeah, he probably could've gotten away with it without the holes,
because you could always pull the upgraded drives out before you took it
in. But you'd have a hard time 'splainin' the new vents ;-).

There's no way they are going to cover a modded box under warranty
because they're not going to insure you from screwing it up yourself.

I'm guessing you have some valid points; however, the Tivo works great
and I'm only selling it because I'm moving to Perth Australia for work.
Since I haven't actually gotten any decent offers yet. I guess it will be
more productive to just put it up for sale on FeeBay.

I don't think anybody is doubting that. If someone wants to buy a
modded box, they just have to accept that it doesn't come with a
warranty. Since the most likely thing to fail (i.e. the Hard drives)
are easy to replace, it shouldn't be that big a deal.

Randy,
You are too correct. I changed out the HD in mine because I was getting
greedy with the CSI episodes.
I will include a Tivo restore image CD with the unit if the buyer wants
it.

Inm not saying that it isnt a fine unit. In fact if i had the money i'd surely
make you a fair offer. I just meant that its really past being under warranty
now. But if its fully working , lifetime service and that large a storage it
is a good deal none the less.

Yeah, I thought that was a little bit out of left field. The Humax deal
is nice, but doesn't include extra storage and the lifetime sub, both of
which have a good bit of additional value as you note.

If you do set this up for auction, please post a link to it here in this
group. I am mildly interested in the unit but I have no idea how much it is
worth so I don't know how much to offer. If I could see competitive binding
bids I could judge whether my 'perceived value' of the product is within my
'discretionary spending limits' (toy account).

You may think my remarks were out of left field, but do you believe Wayne
can sell the DVR for what he thinks it is worth? A new DVR won't have holes
drilled in the top cover. Doing that reduced the value of the unit significantly.

My point was that not even TiVo believes DVRs are worth as much as
the original price.

Wayne hasn't stated a price AFAIK, so I don't know what he believes it's
worth. But a lifetime sub is worth close to $300 (somewhat less because
of the risk that the "lifetime" could be shortened due to the lack of
warranty), and the extra space is worth a good bit to someone who could
use it, particularly someone who wouldn't want to hack the box themselves.
