Function key behaving strangely

I recently updated to windows 10 and since then to use the alternate functions of the f keys, I need to hold fn, press the key, then release fn. It makes adjusting my volume and brightness a very painstaking process. (I used to be able to hold fn and volume up to raise the volume all the way). Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
