Galaxy Tab won't turn on or charge

My husband bought a used tablet that now won't turn on or show it is charging. I tried holding down the down volume button for quite a while, as well as the power button and volume. Nothing. He will be so unhappy if his new toy doesn't work, especially since my Kindle is my best companion, next to him. Any help is appreciated.

I found a few ideas for you to look at but caution you to read the original manual for the make and model and try those solutions first.

Clean the charge socket gently with an old toothbrush.

With your tablet unplugged, press and hold the Power button for around 30 seconds. Then place your tablet on the charger and wait a couple minutes. Next, press and hold the power button for around 30 seconds again.
