Gaming Laptop around $1250

I need a laptop since I my grad school is about to begin. It will be my first laptop, so actually I know nothing about what to look. With my ignorance, I vacillate between Asus Rog G750JM-DS71 and Lenovo Y50 (the model which is $1249). Asus is 9.9 pound and I'm not sure if it's too heavy or not. On the other hand it seems Asus has better cooling system. I see nothing about Y50 heating problem but is there anyone who knows anything about it? And finally which one do you recommend? or Do you recommend any other laptops?
