Question Giving my TV Bluetooth capabilities

Hello! I'm hoping that this isn't too stupid a question. I'm usually pretty tech-savvy, but this isn't something I've dealt with before, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have gaming controllers that I want to use on my TV, but my TV does not have Bluetooth capability. I've been told that the way around this is to buy a Bluetooth transmitter and plug that into the audio output on the TV, but everything I'm reading online about Bluetooth transmitters only talks about connecting headphones and speakers, not game controllers. So I'm confused. Can those transmitters only be used to connect audio accessories, or will it allow me to connect my controllers?

I suspect there would be a lack of driver support for the controllers via the BT adapter. That is where the issue most likely lies.
