[citation][nom]elasticman[/nom]almost 9.5$ to watch a movie .large popcorn with 2 medium soda's for about 12.9$...and they cry!we,the audience should be crying! but instead we are torrenting...god is HELPING us...these are the prices in Israel some places take even more on the popcorn+soda[/citation]
$9.5?
Wow... that's cheap.. $12.50 for my local theatre.
It's not even a good theatre...
[citation][nom]Ehsan W[/nom]I pay a monthly fee at the cinema's to go unlimited anywayguess some people are just too lazy to go, its not even expensivelike 18 bucks[/citation]
18 bucks for unlimited movies??
Do they play the latest movies, or are they a cheap theatre with shitty screens and get the movies a week before they're on TV...

I torrented 80-90GB of movies, games, and software over the weekend...

[citation][nom]chainsaw667[/nom]$6.00 popcorn, $7.50 large soda, and $3.50 for a pack of M&M's killed the returning customer.[/citation]
Why not go to the supermarket just outside the cinema rather than the candy bar? It's 50-70% cheaper.

To be honest, I will no bemoan dead cinemas (which are not dead apparently). At some point, I've decided not to watch pirated movies. But it didn't force me to go to the cinema more often. Instead, I watch movies rarely these days. And feel OK without consuming pirated content.

If the Studios want to make MORE money and less piracy...

Reduce the costs of the bloody tickets! Especially in this economy.
Last big screen movie I saw at full price was Star Trek. For 2009, I remember seeing UP!, Watchmen, District 9 and the rest at a $1 theater or not at all.

When a person SEES a movie at a theater, it may HELP generate a DVD sale. Or I may wait for it to come to red box and spend a buck.

I want to SEE more movies, in the theater. But I and many of my friends ARE not willing to spend $9.50 per head to watch a movie that MAY SUCK. What happened to the $3 matinées from 5+ years ago? Guess what, they are now $8.50! Wow, I saved a buck! So I don't bother catching the cheaper shows... I go when I really want to see a movie.

If YOU want more eyes seeing movies, which also MEANS more (junk) FOOD sales.... REDUCE THE FRACKEN price so that its at least $6 for night shows, $3~4 for matinées. Then *I* will see 3~4 movies a month, RATHER than only 1 movie every 1-2 months. Big difference there.

Oh, I don't eat at theaters. I eat before or after, usually after with friends so we talk about the film and whatever. $4 for a large drink? ($1 for a 2liter in a store) $12 for a large box of popcorn (vs. $2 at a store).

No wonder, that could come only from those greedy bastards, praying every day to their money god, to get their next money rip "blockbuster" through.
Hint: try to offer quality movies and services.

[citation][nom]brendano257[/nom]And what does he kill every time someone gets ripped off by a large agency that is hungry for money?[/citation]
Or everytime someone pays 20$ for a 3$ bowl of popcorn?

[citation][nom]Rab1d-BDGR[/nom]As an omniscient being he gets to see all movies for free, before they've even been produced.Hollywood would try to sue Him, but their lawyers haven't been able to stick a subpoena on Him yet.[/citation]
Yet he manages to never pay for your half of the tickets...

... this sentence makes no sense what so ever... GOD kills a cinema? WTF?! then by downloading a torrent a help do GOD in his/her quest!? So!? This is good or bad?! If GOD wanna kill someone, it must have a good reason...

BTW if God kills cinemas he means that cinemas are not good for his children which also means that he doesn't want us to watch movies and that we should not go to the cinema.

You can tell that most of you aren't British... it's a funny way to get a point across based on the "Every time you masturbate… God kills a kitten".

took my GF out to the movies... it cost 50$ when it was all said and done... Fuck that if i watched movies like I do at home I would be spending 300+ a week, BD + 240hz TV = better than my Movie Theater anyway...

Have you seen what most cinema's charge for entry? Have you seen the absurd prices they charge for food? Have you seen the vast profits they make, whilst keeping wages and maintenance down?

Of course, piracy is a problem. But so are greedy corporations including some of the producers and distributors, including some of the greedy actors themselves. Hollywood has gone from producing relatively independant talent to producing crap you seldom watch twice, appealing to the same mindset's gullible enough to vote in a President they know little, if anything about other than he's trendy. I'd rather watch old films than visit the cinema, to be honest, at least I still have change in my pocket and I don't have to suffer the political/corporate nonesense associated modern-day junk. There's also a plethora of European material - really good films - that never get a look in because their face and their wallet doesn't fit..

Good thing I don't believe in god...

Also god kills a cinema... Wouldn't the people who torrent be killing it? So does that mean they're god in a sense? See how that makes no sense lol.

Besides like a lot of people say they don't make a lot of money on the film itself unless it is a blockbuster. Concessions are marked up extremely high, 8 bucks for a large popcorn are you serious!?

your god can shut as many cinemas down as it wants to.

If this is true, then God is a total moron.

The logical thing to do would be to punish the pirate. However God closes the cinema, why? The pirate wasn't even going to the cinema any way, so what effect would that have?

How does God punishing the employees for something they had no control over make any sense.

I agree, it's greed, not so much greed from the cinema, they are being raped too, but how much does it cost to make a movie? 200 million? 300? How much does it cost to put a bad actor like Tom Cruise in your movie, sucking all the attention to himself and make the movie seem unimportant. I'm sorry, no Tom Cruise should get less money and stand less in the spotlight.

The greed is killing cinema's. People are willing to pay a normal fee to enter and a normal fee to eat. They'd even pay a bit more because it's in a cinema, but we are talking about prices from 200-500%. The cinema has to make money, people staying away, so they have to increase the prices, but guess what, it's only driving the customers away.

Pirates are a byproduct. It's not because we can pirate we don't go, it's because the latest movies are
HORRIBLE
OVERPRICED
OVERHYPED
BORING
SAME AS LAST YEAR
REMAKE20

For example the matrix was great, but the 2nd and 3rd didn't add what 1 did. 1 was great, the others are a piece of garbage and only made the story more complicated without adding fun. And that's what happens more often than not.

If movies got better, cheaper and better actors to play them (some do have good actors, just some are really hurting the movie for their own fame).

Really, Hollywood is at ball, not us. I don't even bother to download these movies. They aren't good enough to see. Why would I go to the cinema?

ok, so you bought a large entertainment system, including HDTV, Blue ray player, and some cheap speakers because you ran out of money without realizing that audio is more important to movies than the video. All the same lets say your average system is some $1250, not including other furniture or the movies to watch on the system. Then movie prices are near $20 for 2 people to watch a movie without popcorn and soda. That means you have to watch some 62 movies at home in order to 'pay off' your home entertainment system. But then you have to buy or rent movies, and blue ray isnt exactly cheap yet so assuming you do the cheapest netflix with blue ray for $10 a month and you get 4 movies in at home compared to 1 movie out per month (because optimistically there is only one movie worth watching per month) brings the total cost per month to $10 more to watch a movie out vs watching in-house. This means you need to watch 125 movies on your high deff screen at home to 'justify' not going to theaters.

The problem with this reasoning: you already bought your high def screen... so you are going to watch it at home just because you already paid for it. Oh crap... you financed that home theater system... so really you will never be able to afford watching movies in theater again, and that is why theaters are closing their doors. Personally... I never liked sitting in a room full of people I don't know who never laugh at the punch lines or jump at the scary scenes. Movies at home are much more entrenching.
