Hack or mod Acer's back-lit keyboard

I have an Aver V3-572g-543s. The back-lit keyboard is nice but if you leave it idle for a minute it turns off automatically. I know it's a power saving thing, but I would like it to stay on until I turn it off manually.
Does anyone know how to do this? Is it even possible?

You could have a script that emulates a keyboard stroke (a key that does nothing is most cases like F2 or something) at the 59 sec mark whenever your computer is idle. But this would also mean that things like auto-sleep probably won't work either.

Right on top of my head, I don't see how, without side-effects as mentioned.
