When starting up my Toshiba Satellite S855, it wont load to windows, some frowny face and a message that splashes too fast to read (I am able to see something about a problem, and is restarting) then, Toshiba screen comes up again says automatic recovery something..then black screen!
hard drive failure?

Solution

A new feature with windows 8 , If you press f8 you will not be able to open safe mode . I found that pressing esc over and over...

It won't do anything with F8. Moreover, when I get to the boot screen at setup utility (by tapping F12) there is nothing in the 2 spot .
1=hdd/ssd hitachi Htxxxxx
2=USB
3=ODD TSSTcorp CDDVDW
4=LAN EFT Network ......
should I be concerned there is nothing listed for #2?

Yea...CHriis were Right, try to enter Safe mode, if it caused by the Virus or Driver problem you should be able to get there, but if don't..it could be Hardware Failure

I guess it looks like hard drive took a dump then, because it doesn't even get as far as loading the windows OS here. ugh.
