hdmi issues/ apple tv

i have apple tv that i always watch on the living room tv no problem. its recently stopped picking up the wifi signal. so ive had my laptop connected via hdmi and its been working fine. so i know the wifi is working as well as the hdmi cord. i thought id try something else and hook my apple tv to my laptop to see if it would work on here but nothing is coming up automatically. si my questions are, is this possible to do, have apple tv thru my laptop and i just dont know where to llok for it- as well as why is my apple tv just not picking up the wifi but every other device i have has no problem. (yes i have tried to restart my Atv many times, even tried to reload to factory settings- however it wont let me because it wont find a gd wifi signal HELP please tia

There is no hidden secret on WIFI, it either works or it doesn't, unless you are trying to do fancy thing with it, like configuring it with a static IP. Still under warranty? return it, else use a CAT5 cable.
