HDMI lead has ruined my laptop?

Hi, I connected my laptops with a HDMI hoping to have a extended screen. But the 2nd laptops screen went Black. However the fan is on and the lights for the buttons are on, safe mode works but normal will not. Please can someone help me without having to delete all that's on the laptop?

Does the laptop still work with it's own screen? You didn't say.

One laptop works. But the other laptops screen won't come on fully. Only the loading screen then it's black. I'm wondering if it's thinking it's got another monitor plugged into it...

If you connected them, then it is likely it thinks it should be using the other screen.
