hdmi to rca converter box to play tv audio through older receiver

trouble connecting new panasonic tv to older sony receiver with hdmi to rca converter box to play tv audio through external speakers...im just not getting this. i got a hdmi to rca video converter box because the sony gx67es reciever doesnt have hdmi or the digital audio ports only rca...now im lost . ive connected everything but still cannot get tv sound through my speakers. can anyone give me a clear (and preferrably simple) diagram? quite literally i need someone to draw me a picture. thanks in advance for any and all help offered.

If you connected an HDMI-ARC audio extractor to the HDMI-ARC connection on your new TV you may have to turn on ARC in the TV menu. You may also have to turn the TV speakers off and change the audio output type. Check the TV manual.
If you still can't get it working then your TV probably has an optical audio output that can be used the same way but with an optical to analog converter. Same instructions will apply to optical as ARC.
If your TV has a headphone jack then you don't need any converters just a cable.
