Headphones or Speakers not playing sound!

I have an hp laptop (not sure what model but I can find out) and neither the speakers no any type of headphones will play sound. I had been streaming tv from hulu when the sound suddenly cut out. I had looked at past answers here for this and tried a bunch, but none work. When I go into sound settings to test the speakers, an error message appears, claiming the audio is in use, but I'm not running any application that is using audio. Please help!

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Start by uninstalling/reinstalling the sound card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the sound driver.
- Next is to download and install the latest driver from HP Support site.

- Once installed reboot your PC then test if you'll get the sound back.
- If these doesn't work do run System Restore, restore it back to an earlier date or time before the problem even happened.

- If these doesn't work your last resort would be to reinstall Windows.
