Headset/mic combo jack

Hi,

I am using a Sony VPCSA25GG which comes with a headset/mic combo jack.

I tried connecting a handphone headset (4 section plug) to the jack and the audio works fine but the microphone does not work. I have tried going to audio settings but the only microphone listed is the internal one. Does anyone know how I can get it to work? Is this simply a configuration issue or would I need a splitter/adapter of sorts?

Some jacks only support one thing at a time i.e. only in or only out. Your best bet is to buy a USB version, as USB will do both in and out at the same time.
