Hello people
i have a doubt and i seriously want to solve it as i am unaware of many facts.
i had purchased dell inspiron 15 1545 (ram 3 gb) way back in 2009 and i dont know what graphics does it have or use , it certainly has intel graphics only . few months back my harddisk got corrupted and i went to dell but they told it will cost me around 12-13k i was shocked , then i went to a computer service station and they told me it will only cost me 500 bucks as they will only format it and no further issues . so i gave my laptop there and they installed windows 7 64 bit pirated edition and then the laptop screen was looking a bit low. i searched internet for solutions and installed intel mobile chipset 4 family in 2012 then updated it in 2013 . was this step ok ? but still i find some games are lagging a bit . so i searched internet for these then i found intel hd graphics drivers. should i install these drivers too ?
i right cliked on desktop and went in screen resolution>advanced settings>adapter tab and there i found it was written mobile intel(r) 4 series express chipset family and that total availbale graphics memory is 1324 mb but dedicted video memory is 64 mb and shared system memory is 1260mb . Is this ok ?
or should i need to update to latest drivers and install intel hd graphics driver ?

ok...

let me get this straight, a computer repair place charged you $500 to reformat your hard drive and install a pirated version of windows 7?

I'd report them to the police because they robbed you blind. you could have bought a brand new laptop superior to your old Dell for $500 and you wouldn't be having these problems and you'd have a legit version of windows. I work in as an IT consultant, we're a legit business who care for our clients. if it looked like a wipe and reload was called for we would have told you upfront it would probably cost you less to buy a new laptop. Furthermore, we could even have tried to pull the data off your old hard drive for you.

I don't say this to sell my company. i'm saying this to inform you of what a reputable IT firm would have done in this situation. Please, never go back, and please report them to the BBB. they have no business doing business. and you're clearly a victim of their shady practices.

Now then
your gpu is an intel on motherboard integrated into the northbridge chipset (its not on the cpu) called (GMA) 4500MHD http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/GM45/GM45-overview.htm

you can get the drivers there though i'm not sure how much they'll help. Simply put, that was a $650 laptop in 2009, it's 6 years later, for $500 you could have got a much better laptop for yourself then that old beast.

As for your sluggish behavior in windows 7, turn off aero. You do this by
hit the windows key
type "advanced system settings" and hit enter
click on the performance "settings" button
in the visual effects tab select the option "adjust for best performance"
hit ok
this should make your desktop look a lot more like windows xp, it will also eliminate most of that lag you're suffering.

1) Go to INTEL's site and run the tool which automatically tells you which drivers from Intel can be updated. Then download and install.

2) Go into your BIOS (probably "DEL" on boot) and allocate more memory for the GPU. You only have 3GB of total main memory so 1024MB is the absolute maximum you should use (may not be an option).

512MB might be a more reasonable amount but even then I'm not sure what games you can reasonably play.

3) Download the TORCHLIGHT (#1) Demo and see if that's playable.

4) I agree with the above comment about you getting ripped off in addition to the pirated Windows.

FYI, all they apparently did was insert a pirated copy of Windows which installed and overwrote all the existing data. It's likely you could have just RESTORED YOUR BACKUP IMAGE on the current hard drive for free by pressing one of the F-Keys on bootup...

A for DELL that sounds like they are quoting the cost to restore all your data from a defective hard drive. For a CORRUPTED (but not defective) drive you could have used software to copy the data to a USB hard drive (then restored the backup image if possible or buy a standalone copy of Windows OEM for $80 at the time if not).

I am not sure if he's using USD in his country, or lives in the US.

He also said Dell asked him for 12-13k for which you can buy around 40 chromebooks :D

Assuming he reached dell. a lot of search engines are returning scammer's phone numbers these days when people search dell. Just last week someone from "dell" (they weren't but my client was certain they were) quoted 800 to remove a virus from their computer. Dell doesn't remove viruses. So they searched dell on the web and got a bogus number.

Of course this is what happens when people use Bing and Yahoo search results.

He sounds US to me. As for DELL I suspect that's the cost to recover data from a defective drive that he was quoted which is done in a recovery lab and is expensive.

ok, either way do what i suggested at the end of my post will fix your problem. it might not look good but it's better to have a pc that works then one that doesn't.
