depending on the age of the laptop the restore image may be on the hard drive as a hidden partion.you have to check toshiba web page for that info. if not she can see if the disks are on ebay or call the laptop vendor up and for a small fee there send her a set of replacement disks.

she cant get the computer to boot to windows it starts the start test and just keeps repeating the pxe-e61 media test fail check cable Thanks for your input so far can you tell me what the PXE-E61 means please & if a recovery disc will fix it?

The error you are getting is because its not booting from the hard drive and trying to boot from a network. Is the HDD recognized in the bios?

I don't know she is not computer savy & I'm over 100 miles away from Her

They are many things that can cause this a bad hdd, corrupt boot files, corrupt file system, bad/loose hdd connection, etc. To even narrow the field we'll need more information. To enter the bios press f2 during startup.

Thanks I'll try and see if she will try the f2 button when I next talk to her

I checked and she is having squealing from hard drive thanks to all that responded in this matter
