Help with elusive virus/problem

Many programs are closing without an error, such as: VLC when playing video, Steam, System Properties and whatever windows uses to view pictures by default.
I have uninstalled and re-installed VLC and Steam, and scanned my computer with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes says it found some files and removed them, but nothing has changed with the applications. I have restarted since then.

HP Pavilion dv6
Windows 7 64bit
AMD A8-3520M APU ~1.6GHz
12 GB Ram (overkill, i know)
AMD Radeon HD 6620G 512MB

"...Malwarebytes says it found some files and removed them..." bummer. Download the bootable Norten disk and see if it can do a better job of cleaning up. Ditto running microsoft defender. Consider copying off your data files and then reformatting. once you start cleaning up files hit by a virus things can go bad quickly.
