Hook up antenna

I'm cutting cable. I have a Samsung LED55 Smart tv.
1. What do I need to set up the antenna? Any materials I need to purchase?

2. How do I set up the channels?
I've done a channel scan and 0 channels were found. Yet, we're within 15 miles of Tampa. I'm I not doing something.

3. I've been told to set up channels before cutting cable. As well as don't need to. Which is it?

do you have a digital antenna connected to you TV ?

Try aiming the antenna different directions. Higher is better than lower.
Some antennas are lousy.
You scan for channels before cutting the cord to make sure you get them. In some households no TV would cause an insurrection.
