I bought a Dell laptop at Best Buy, under the impression that what I was purchasing was brand new. Though, when I accessed an educational website (My Math Lab) I noticed that someone was already signed into the website. I read on some forum that you can use a program called "Active Disk Editor" to inspect your hard drive, so I bought it, though I have no clue what I'm supposed to be looking for. I tried registering the service tag to see if it had already been registered but it hadn't been.

So what do I have to do exactly to find out if the laptop is used using this program? Is there any other way to find out? Is there a way I can analyze My Math Lab to show proof that someone was logged in before me? Thanks guys!

Was the laptop sealed with the factory seal? Did it go through the setup of Windows with you picking a user name, etc... when you turned it on? The disk program will look at the disk usage, but you can't really go by that to find out if the laptop was ever used because during the process of setting up the system at the factory, the disk gets used, so you would need to know what the base disk usage may be for it, then compare to your disk usage.

You said you "purchased the software", it's free http://www.disk-editor.org/ Did you pay for it?
