how many speakers and in which config with 6 channel home amp

hello,
i got an old school yamaha dsp ax630 amplifier .
speakers i currently have are

a pair of bose 201-II video monitor for fronts
a pair of bose 101 IT for rears
jamo center 100

How many speakers can i connect more and how do i set it up in my room? e.g 2 on front, 1 pair on rear, 2 pair how what ?

It's a stereo Amp, so you connect the front two and then stop.

its a 6.1 channel amp. and already i am using 5.1

in which case you need to look at the amp to determine what the extra 1 is, I suspect that you have FL FC FR and RL RC RR and Sub for the .1 7.1 would be sides and rears, with 5.1 side/rear are interchangeable.

so the rear centre goes at the rear in the centre, you can choose to use the additional fronts, BUT i would only use them if they were better for music instead of the the other two fronts. Or put them in a different room.

what if i put 4 fronts , would that be wise. i do listen to music on them

Only in an either/or scenario i.e. if one pair is better for film tracks and the others are more audiophile in nature then switch between them. BUT unless you are an audiophile it'll not be worth the hassle.

This is one strange amp, it got these extra fronts and a rear center, far out!

See if you can find the manual online, that's what I would do. Manual is Godspell.

Of course you needn't hook up all. You got your 5.1 and happy, may wanna just stop.

The receiver is set up for three front speakers and three surround speakers. You do have the option of using 2 pairs of speakers as front left and right.
You could use a center surround speaker since you surrounds are in the corners. It would fill the dead area in the middle rear. Not critical.
If you try to use multiple pairs together as fronts but the result is usually not good.
I would suggest that rather than add more speakers you should consider better quality speakers starting with the three fronts. You can use one of the old ones as your surround center.
