SD cards are great to have around since they can be used to store all kinds of data. The cards are normally used in portable devices such as cell phones and digital cameras. Depending on the SD card’s capacity, you can store hundreds or even thousands of pictures and other files. In order to make the SD card compatible with the device you will be using it with, you will need to format the card. Here is how.
Step 1: Put the SD card into the appropriate slot in your computer. Make sure you put the card into the right slot. If your computer does not have an SD card slot, you can insert the card into a device such as a cell phone or digital camera and the device will act as a card reader.
Step 2: Click the Start menu and select Computer. This will display all of the drives being used by the computer.
Step 3: Find the SD card under “Devices with Removable Storage.” Click on it so it is highlighted.
Step 4: Right click on the highlighted icon for the SD card and select Format from the drop-down menu that appears. The Format SD card Window will appear.
Step 5: Make sure that File System is set to FAT32. This will allow the SD card to be read by multiple devices like cameras, phones, printers, and more.
Step 6: Click to start formatting the SD card. A window will pop up saying that the format is complete. Click OK when done.
The SD card is now formatted and ready to be used on a variety of devices.
