Hi, Im Jiswin,

I'm a bit confused about using external monitors with my laptop.

I want to buy a big external monitor to use with my 15" laptop. (HP Win 10, 8GB ram, 64 bit, 4GB Nvidia GT 940 M)

My screen resolution is 1366 x 768. I would like to go for a higher resolution in my external monitor.

So would like to know how much higher I could go, if that is possible?

I have an Nvidia GT 940 M (4GB) graphic card, and found an HDMI port just side of it :)

Waiting for your expert guidelines...

Solution
HDMI 1.2 and earlier support up to 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz.
You will need support for HDMI 1.3 or later in both your laptop and monitor for 2560x1440 (QHD).
Note that not all QHD monitors have this support, some support 2560x1440 using DisplayPort or Dual-link DVI inputs and lower resolutions using HDMI or VGA inputs.

A 1920x1080 monitor with a HDMI input will work fine.
Higher than that depends on the version of HDMI being used and the maximum resolution of that GT 940M, which doesn't appear to be published on the Nvidia website.
If planning to run games you will need to choose fairly low settings with that graphics card.

Hi, thank you for your kind reply.

Im a graphic designer. So I need an external monitor to safe run with the adobe application. So i have more work space.

I have two option...
1. Have a Full HD monitor
2. Have a QHD monitor.

So can you pls let me know, for QHD which version of HDMI has to be used?
Thank you.
