How to record streaming video with a Magnavox dvd/vhs

I am trying to figure out how to record streaming video from my Vizio internet ready tv onto my Magnavox dual DVD/VHS recorder. The Magnavox is hooked to the tv through a side HDMI port. It is supposed to be able to record, but nothing we have tried works.

HDMI is a protected path, if the video has copy protection on it then nothing will record it usually buy In your case it doesn't look like you have things connected properly. Not that you will be able to record protected content anyways. You could probably try the local news, that may not be protected.

Is the HDMi port on the tv a video & audio output?
is the HDMI port on the magnavox an input port?

Your TV does not have an output for you to record streaming av content (none do). The HDMI connection you are using is for playback only.
