I have a HP DV6-6135dx and today the monitor stopped working... not to sure why. I'm pretty careful with it, keep it in a laptop bookbag with a good amount of padding. anyway, when I hook it up to an external monitor I can get video. otherwise nothing.

any suggestions?

Probably is the wire that connects it, so Check the connection. Can you see if it shows anything? Even super dim? If that's the case, time to replace the backlight.

Hi Michael. I have the exact laptop for 2 years now. Mine even fell pretty bad from about 2m height ( my cat knocked it off a high shelf) and the display is fine, so I don't think it's from you hitting it or something.

Does the backlight of the screen still come on?

However, a known and somehow related issue with laptops is overheating. This heat causes various chips from the motherboard to get unsoldered, one of these chips being the GPU (graphical chip). The symptoms vary... from artifacts on the screen, colored lines, etc,... to complete failure (laptop doesn't start anymore).
