hp envy dv7 7230us cpu upgradable?

so is it possible to upgrade the 4500m processor to A10-4600M?

i dont know if the processor is built into the mobo or no. only reason why i want to upgrade is because its the latest for the fm1m socket. i seen some other a10 processors that will be available for the ft1 socket but who knows if the laptop will support it. yes i know, i need to know if the mobo firmware supports a10 well i cant tell you that answer because i dont know it. i think hp wont release information like that. but still will try. the a10 is not that much better but it is a bit faster.

ok i understand what you are saying but, that doesnt mean the processor is soldered onto the motherboard. their are allot of company's that will release a new laptop then about a year or couple of months they will release another laptop which will have a different processor that doesn't mean they are soldered onto the board. i would like to know where are you getting your information that the processor is soldered?

You really shouldn't comment on questions you know nothing at all about. For your info the DV7-7230 doesn't have a soldered onboard CPU. I have had my sons apart 2 times to replace thermal paste and clean the cooling fan and the CPU is a standard AMD A8-4500. Which by BTW can be upgraded to an A10 with an updated bios. Beware to only flash the correct firmware!!

It's good to have people that have actually tried this like above. The APU is not soldered in and can be upgraded. Just make sure that socket type matches. I just ordered the a10 6800k and it looks to be a huge upgrade!

I stand corrected, willing to accept I may be wrong, but surprised that HP are not soldering APU's as it is common practice for OEMs.

We've learned that the dv7-7230us's AMD is replaceable..

But I'm wondering if my dv7-7250us's Intel Core-i7 3630QM CPU (with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000) is replaceable. Because Intel just unveiled their newest 4th-gen Core i7s with Intel Iris Pro 5100 and Iris Pro 5200 graphics, and Intel has guaranteed that Iris Pro achieves 60fps with Grid 2, Battlefield 4*, and CoD Ghosts* (*when set to medium settings according to Intel). My HD 4000 can run Grid 2 at 60fps on low settings, but I'm lucky if I can get 45fps at best in Battlefield 4 and Ghosts at low settings.
