Hi All,

I got a HP G6 laptop. Its just more than 2 yrs old. I have not used it running on battery much.. Very very rare. I often have it plugged in only while using. But recently I noticed that when i unplug it, it doesnt even stays switched ON for 5 mins. It immediately comes down to 85% and shuts down. I really dunno why it happens.
Could there be some settings or software that I have installed that coule be doing this?
Is there some way I can know if my battery is down and out?

I run it mostly on power saver mode or balanced. Additionally, I have installed Battery care software.

Any questions, pls ask me. I am willing to provide answers to my best.

Really appreciate your help. Thank you everyone!

There has been empirical evidence that has shown when the battery is being continuously charged where it is always near or is at 100% charge there is a chemical reaction called lithium ion plating. Basically, the lithium ions begins to combine together to form "plates", when this happens the battery life starts to drop.

There is nothing you can really do except to buy a new battery. The only advice I can give you is to only allow the battery to charge to around 80%, then remove the battery and store it somewhere until you actually need to use the laptop using the battery. At that point install the battery then allow it to charge to 100% to get maximum battery life.

The HP G6 series have removable batteries to the best of my knowledge.

Hey.. Thanks for your reply.. Its around 45.. When it was 30 I did a battery recalibration suggested by Battery care.

Thanks jaguarskx.. I am not familiar with Lithium plating.. Do you mean to say even when I don't use my laptop running on battery much, it degrades? Kinda bad.. is there any way I can check if my battery is good or not? Any software to check the battery condition? Appreciate ur help..

That's practically brand new. Yes you are suppose to "exercise" it once in a while, but still. If out of warranty I hope u bought it with AX which doubles it. If not shoot an email to HP and complaint about *only* 30 cycles and already dead? see what they do.

Yea.. Thats what bugs me a lot.. Probably I will drop a mail to HP then as you suggested. Thank you :)
