hp pavilion cd doesnt play

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv 6105us Notebook PC It plays movies,music cds, and copied information cds but it will not play older cds its played in the past.
To get copies of these would cost me more than I have right now thanks for your help

See if you can rip the CDs to the hard drive as WAVs or MP3 using Windows Media Player (either on you computer or a friend's).

Meanwhile go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and see if the drive is yellow flagged for some problem.

If you can access the laser lens, try cleaning that (gently) with a baby cotton wool stick and some alcohol (clean off afterwards with the dry end of the cotton stick).
