HP Pavillion ZX5000 System Password reset

I've just acquired my late Father-In-Law's HP Pavillion ZX5000 Notebook pc and haven't been able to get pass the DOS-looking dialog box asking for system password. I thought it was, by default, the same name as the BIOS maker, Pheonix, but no. Does anyone know what to do in a situation like mine? It's a been really well taken care of and is in pristine condition, hate to just let it go.

Hey thanks for responding, jsc! I tried to locate the cmos batt but all i found was a smaller than usual, purple jacketed batt that's somehow permanently connected to the mb. is that it and if so, how do i pull it? thanks!
