Whenever I open the NVIDIA control panel, it says that I am not using a display adapter is not attached to a NVIDIA GPU. After spending days, I realised that my computer display was using "Microsoft Basic Display Driver". I have searched and people had said that it should be named as NVIDIA..... , Intel..... or AMD.... but instead I have "Microsoft Basic Display Driver". Can someone tell me a solution on how do I change my display adapter to NVIDIA?

I am using an Acer TravelMate P249-G2-MG
Intel Core i7-7500U
NVIDIA GeForce 940MX

Your laptop likely auto switches between the iGPU of the Intel CPU (to conserve power) and the discreet Nvidia card when required.

The "basic display" driver is the generic in Windows - Windows update should find you the appropriate iGPU driver, but not always.
You can download from here:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/support-product/7117;-;

under "VGA driver", note the Intel driver. Avoid the Nvidia one from there though - that should be downloaded from Nvidia's website directly.
