I have a Philips dvd player..never used one. Dummy hete need help step by step to get this going. Tv is on.its all hooked up.

Without model numbers you won't get an exact answer.
If the DVD and TV have HDMI out and in then you need an HDMI cable.
If one doesn't then you may need an active converter. Too many variables to give you every combination without knowing the model numbers.
