Does your computer work with other keyboards and mice? Did you try different ports? Does it detect the USB dongle for the keyboard/mouse that it's inserted?

Yes, Did all of that. No Go. Took to shop. They said power supply is bad plus other things.
I think it may be toast. Nine years old!

When you plug the keyboard/mouse in, your computer may be trying to install the driver software. If there is an "installing driver software" icon ( see http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/answer_media/media/images/answer_12286/12286-1.jpg ) then click on it, and wait for it to say "Ready to use." If it still does not work, you may have to go to the manufacturer's website to manually download and install the drivers.
