I work part time in a electronics repair store and I recently got a second hand Dell Inspiron M301Z laptop with a dead motherboard and display. I replaced both the display and the motherboard from another identical machine with a smashed up case. No here is the issue, the laptop does not detect when the lid is closed and I can't figure out why. (I don't even know if the M301Z can detect lid close but I can't imagine why it can't

Hi,

Have you tried changing the Power Option of the laptop?

- Right click on the battery icon on the bottom right hand corner and select Power Option.
- On the left pane of Power Option you should see "Choose what closing lid does"
- You could either set it to Sleep or Hibernate for both On Battery and Plugged in.
- Click Save Changes then do try it again.
