is a PC laptop or apple macbook OK for 24 hours operation?

what I mean 24 hours operation is not about running them continuously with heavy stress tasks or all the demanding work. I use my computer probably not different to most home users, mainly for entertainment, but I don't normally turn OFF my PC because I like sleeping with my computer playing music or have it left downloading files overnight. When I get up in the morning, my very first thing to do is to check email and other messages so I don't normally want to turn OFF my PC

I'd like to know if a PC laptop or a macbook nowadays are already designed for 24 hours use? Is heat generated an issue?? Do I need anything like cooling pad or something alike ?? Or does it depend on the brand and model I am looking for?? I only had a laptop in the year of 2000 and at that time I remember it could get hot very easily.

I've used a few laptops in that manner (I used to travel a lot). I will recommend using a cooling pad (it can only help). The laptop you choose will dictate any additional cooling needs and, if possible (hard to find out before purchase) a laptop that works without the battery in helps - it really does a number on the battery to keep it in and charging all the time. The battery wearing down fast is the biggest problem doing that so if the battery can be charged then removed, it'll last quite a bit longer (the battery).

isn't it a legend that laptop battery would overcharge? Some people said it's nothing to worry about the battery because it stops charging when its full

For travel, find a laptop that has a removable battery. Carry an extra charged battery with you, and a charger for it.

Or if you're stuck with one of those expensive, over-priced, sealed, disposable notebooks, you can buy an expensive battery backup attachment. Helps to have a PV solar charger, too. Also get a 12V charger that you can plug into a car's 12V outlet.

You can charge the notebook overnight, while in bed, but a phone or tablet is better for listening to music, using a sleep timer, while your notebook is plugged in elsewhere for downloads. I use my phone and tablet in bed leaving my computer elsewhere working by itself. I can check email on the phone [Nokia/iPhone] and/or on my Asus [or other] Android tablet.
