I have recently purchased a HP 255 g7 laptop, ryzen 5 3500u, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM. Around the same time my 2TB external HDD stop functioning as expected. I ran a lot of different tests on different apps and the drive itself seems to be functioning as normal, it just wont let me utilise the full USB 3.0 speeds. After contacting the manufacturer we determined that it is probably the circuit board in the HDD enclosure, so i wondered if i could install that HDD directly into my laptop for some extra storage space. I contacted HP regarding this idea and they informed me that i could only install a maximum of 1TB HDD alongside my 512GB SSD, and that any larger would not work. I have never heard of this before and was wondering if this was a companies play on not letting you upgrade your existing hardware so that you had to buy a new system from them, but does anyone know if this is true?
