Question Is it possible to replace a laptop screen with a lower refresh rate?

I would like to emphasize that I’m attempting to replace a screen with a lower refresh rate. I’m aware that it is not possible to replace one with a higher refresh rate. But I don’t understand why a screen with lower refresh rate can’t be replaced because anyway you could decrease the refresh rate of the screen via Windows settings.

The screen I have currently is a 144Hz one which is not working. However, I've got a screen for the laptop which is 120Hz. Is this replacement possible?

How do I know whether it is compatible? By the way, my laptop is an Acer Nitro-5.
