Hello everyone, I was playing the Civilization 6 on my MSI GT60 laptop and after about 2 hours of gaming I heard a crackle and lots of smoke, now let me tell you that the pc is around 5 years old and has taken a lot of hours of gaming, but I clean it every 3 months and have reapplied the heatsink paste 3 times over its lifespan. The problem is that the gpu is dead, but when I panicked and tried to turn it on with the gpu in while the backplate was open, smoke came from the motherboard the gpu pins sparked a lot. Has that small chip that burnt on the mobo rendered the gpu slot useless, the laptop starts up fine without the gpu and loaded to the os. And if the port is unusable are there any recommendations on what gaming laptop I could buy for ~1000$. Thanks for your time

To me it looks like the slot and the card both went at it. You could source a replacement card and see if that revives the graphical intensive duties on your laptop but a replacement GPU for your laptop don't come cheap nor do they grow on trees. Can you get a hold of MSI and see what they would charge you to fix the laptop? In either case, with 4 years between now and the day you purchased the laptop, you're in a good opportunity to buy a laptop in that price range.

We will need information akin to this thread and we can move forward from there.
