So I have been researching laptops and have narrowed it down to 2 choices.

Asus N56VM or a Lenovo Ideapad Y500

Both are respectively good brands.
I plan to use them for college, entertainment, and some gaming.
I'm leaning more towards the Asus N56VM because it comes with Windows 7 and I am not a fan of Windows 8.

What do you guys think?

If you plan on taking your laptop to classes with you, I'd seriously consider something lighter. Not one person at my school who had laptops that size carried them around to classes regularly, though most of them had intended on doing so when they bought them. However, if you aren't planning on taking it to class with you, both are great. I personally would lean towards the Y500, but I like Windows 8.

Wrong spec for lugging about. Something robust and small like business class 13" laptops would be better. Like James says, lugging a 15" around will get tired really quickly. Also, since you will be typing on it a lot you be best to check out the different keyboards. Chicklet style keyboards are horrible to type on btw. Specs i would go for is 13", light, no optical drive, good battery life, a keyboard i had checked out for real before ordering.

Thanks for your responses! I've taken a deeper dive into reviews and such and both seem to have their fair share of problems as well. But then again there is no perfect laptop. Is there any other laptops you guys would suggest that would fit my criteria?
