I noticed that some of my laptop's keyboard buttonr have started to have a "weird" feeling when pressing. I have removed them with a screw driver and put them back and the problem gets fixed, however, I was wondering whether there are any alternative solutions? Would an external usb keyboard work on the laptop if the keyboard fails completely? Thank you.

Solution
Any External USB Keyboard will work flawlessly if the keyboard fails completely. This is due to the fact that the USB Serial Bus has nothing to do with your keyboard and therefore inherently independent.

If your laptop is popular, you can have the keyboard fixed inexpensively if you know the right people to do it.

An example of a cheap USB Keyboard:

15$< wired ones would also work
