My roommates laptop charging port is basically defunked. He has to hold the power cord in for it to keep a connection. Since there is no way to fix just that part on the motherboard, or at least Im told that. The only option would be to replace the motherboard.

However, I was wondering is there a way to directly connect where the battery connects to the motherboard to a DC source? Like are there adapters for those kinds of terminals or would we have to fashion something custom?

You might be able to rig something up (no commerical adapters to do as you propose), but the likelihood of zapping you or the computer makes this a bad proposition. Swapping a laptop mobo is not that difficult. Also, is this system still under warranty? If so, contact the vendor for help.
