Hello, I am the owner of a lenovo y50 gaming laptop.
Yesterday, after a short while of using it, it suddenly stopped working.

I heard a pop noise and the computer completely shut down.
Pressing the power button does nothing, with the battery in or out. (charger connected or unconnected).
I also tried turning it on with the hdd unplugged as well which didn't work.

I didn't see any burn marks or smell anything when it happened.

Also, I did several tests with a friends laptop (he has the same one)
His charging cord didn't work on my laptop, and putting his battery into mine produced no effect.

So from what I've researched I believe that there is a motherboard error. I have very little hardware experience compared to my software knowledge and don't know what to do.

Can anyone tell me their thoughts on the situation and how I can either repair or buy new parts to fix it?

Thanks

A popping sound definitely isn't a good thing. I'll suggest waiting about 24 hours (possibly allowing any poly-fuses to reset) and trying again.
If nothing then, you (someone) will need to get inside to see if anything is obviously burnt/damaged
