Four channels of Lifetime showed up on the Lyngsat charts - supposedly
in the clear on Galaxy 12 (ie, what used to be Galaxy 5 at 125 W), tp
21, 4120 H, sr 29270, DVB. My Satcruiser found them, but there was no
audio!
When I looked at each channel it showed audio PID of 0000, but Lyngsat
showed specific audio values for each channel. I plugged those values
in and still no sound. Either something changed during the day or they
are in AC3 format.
Or perhaps it is in the process of being converted to subscription mode.
As for why they are going to be in the 4DTV digital package, it's
probably for the same reason that cable and all satellite services don't
have a la carte. It's because many channels couldn't stand on their own
financially, so the only way to keep them active is to make everyone pay
for them. A second reason for a la carte is that some channels - such
as sports - would be so expensive (due to passing along the outrageous
player salaries) for "true" subscribers that they have to lower that
cost by averaging it out across all subscribers.
