you would be looking at the cowon S9, which is totaly flash based OS, and they 'want' you to make custom UCIs for it, there is a fan site for the S9 which has them already. If you meant "open source" like that

 
I wouldn't really bother looking at anything beyond the Cowon S9. Great media player. Only gripes are:

1. Max 32GB internal memory
2. No memory expansion slot.

I use it even after purchasing my Motorola Droid smartphone which is crappy for media when compared to the Cowon S9.

whoa wait cowon just got a new one out called the J3 it looks very nice, it looks like a samung phone.

also has a SD Slot and a external speaker :)

oh and its a S9 in heart just different style and new UI
 
Yeah, the Cowon J3 looks real interesting. I wish the S9 had expandable memory capabilities.

Since I only bought my S9 last year, I'll simply wait for something to come along with higher internal memory capacity. 128GB flash memory would be nice, but probably at least another 5 years away.
