Thanks for taking time to check my problem out. I have searched google and this site and not really found an answer.

My Camera, CANON XA20, has an HDMI out. We want to live stream. So what is the best way to go from that hdmi out into a computer with an Internet connection?

Not really worried about the computer - It doesn't exist yet. We will build what we need. The real question is what do I need between the camera and the computer.

Thanks in advance.

It is for a non-profit (church). We want to keep spending low. Less than $200... Is that possible?

We were going to use a Laptop with 8 GB Ram and an i3 Processor. Not sure where we will stream... Maybe Youtube.. Maybe Ustream

I would love some suggestions!

That Cannon is a nice camera... It is one recommended by the following...

Try creating a YouTube Channel as a business / church... You will find a trail/free version of Wire Cast For YouTube... (be sure you down load the YouTube version) The Telestream will work but the free version has a watermark both audio and video. Get through the learning curve before you invest in a version...

I have recently started the learning curve myself with this... The Wire Cast is upgradeable to many cameras fade in / transitions etc. Limited in the free version.

I have an older Panasonic HD handheld with a 1394 output... I run this into an express card to a laptop via 400/800 fire wire. The factory chipset is not as fast as the fire wire.

One issue I have run into is we are on the outskirts of town, a little slow on the streaming side... however Wire Cast has the ability to delay the stream view. You may see the signal say weak or dropped, but it will keep uploading. it will only be jerky to the outside world... this is where the 30 or 60 second delay will allow to upload somewhat before viewing...

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2ecekJOQnkdHE6-4se4BcQ/videos / Should you have any other questions use the YouTube channel as a way to contact me in the future... I was doing some searching and ran across this thread.

My audio is connected directly from the left and right 1/4" outputs on the sound board / XLRs go to FOH Use headphones from XA20 jack to monitor sound levels... If you only want to capture the message and not the music you can use an AUX Output for only the pastors mic.

Also, For the safety of the church, check and purchase an add on Copy Write Usage, You may already have one tied into your ShowSong Plus or what ever you may be using for your projection.

It's a little late, but this may help anyone with the same problem. Try this capture card here, which should capture in full HD. And instead of paying $500+ for a service like Wirecast, try a simpler program such as ManyCam for about $60. I use it to stream multiple cameras (can display up to 6 at once, but can switch to as many as you can physically connect).

Not sure that is a capture card you linked me to. How is that to be used?

Couldn't you just use the following programs and feed that the input from the HDMI?

  • Open Broadcaster Software
    SparkoCam
    digiCamControl
