Within your $400 (before tax) you can purchase the following Acer laptop for $350 with a Core i3-7100u, 4GB of RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, 1080p screen. Additionally, purchase a 4GB stick of RAM for $46 and install it yourself to get a total of 8GB of RAM.

Here's a review and there is a link to a playlist which includes how to upgrade the RAM. There are also some games tested if you are interested.

Microsoft Defender is the default antivirus program that comes with Windows 10. However, I prefer to use Avast! Fee; I have been using it since 2010.

Thank you! :)

Also, noticing macafee and added protection through the retailer itself being pushed at every retailer I visit. Doesn't Microsoft have its own antivirus protection already installed in their computers?

Microsoft's Defender antivirus comes with Windows 10. It's Ok. I personally use Norton Security Deluxe for all my home PC's, along with Defender. Another good choice is Avast anti-virus. Eventhough McAfee comes as crapware on a new PC, you don't have to enable it and you can uninstall it. I'd also suggest that you download the free version of MalwareBytes and run once a month.
